STRATOCONSTRICTOR

Picture
Modeled after a python, this is a very thin bodied, lightweight number. It's got that classic sound. The body carving took forever, but the best part, the head of the snake came out in a few quick chops.

Picture
Hand-carved and hand-painted sassafras top on a walnut body. One big snake tempting you with not one, but two too-red apples.  Baby snake headstock.
Picture
The baby snake headstock.  I think it may need Adam and Eve squeezed in there somewhere.  There's always something to do... The top is carved out of sassafras which gives off a sweet oily smell as it’s being cut. It can get into your head and give you a little buzz.
I tried to cut the pickup holes as tight as possible, then broke the pickup wires on a pickup trying to shoe-horn it in. I opened the holes enough to make it all work and setup. It was tedious and probably not worth trying to do what I was trying to do. Later, I put painted pickup covers on so they blend in with the snake pattern. I also cut down the size of the apples to give better access to the upper frets. A nice figured maple neck and a very smooth player with a basic “hard tail” strat sound.
